The Sedgwick County Zoo has reopened its bird exhibits after concerns over avian influenza.
The exhibits were closed after a dead duck was found on zoo grounds on November 13th, and the duck tested positive for Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI). The bird exhibits were closed as a precaution and birds were moved to indoor habitats to prevent contact with wild birds.
Zoo officials said Wednesday that HPAI activity has decreased in the area, so the Australia/South America and Tropics exhibits will reopen, along with Penguin Encounters. The Zoo will continue its surveillance and monitoring of active cases.
