Firefighters were called to the Wichita Transit Center early Wednesday after a fire broke out on an electric-powered bus in a maintenance area.
The fire was reported around 1:30 a.m. in the Transit Center in the 700 block of East Waterman. Crews found that a bus caught fire and the flames spread to the lithium ion batteries. Crews put water on the fire for nearly an hour to cool the batteries off.
No injuries were reported. Several other buses had smoke damage. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
