High fire danger exists for Kansas and Oklahoma

Red Flag warnings have been issued for much of Kansas and Oklahoma today because of dry and windy conditions that are creating an extreme danger for wildfires.

The warnings are in effect until 7 p.m. for all of south central Kansas.   Low humidity and southerly winds gusting up to 45 mph will create a fire danger across the area.   Any fires that develop could spread rapidly because of the winds.

People are urged to be careful with smoking materials and any sources of fire, and outdoor burning is not recommended.
